Antonio Segui was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1934. In 1963 he moved to Paris, where he actually lives and works. For over 50 years he’s been exhibiting worldwide, as well as having received several awards for his work, such as the Konex Platinum Award (Argentina), Grand Prize Fondo nacional de las Artes (Argentina) and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (France). His iconic characters are referred to as little ant-men, are always dressed in grey suits, alluding to the typical tanguero figure during the 1920’s in Argentina and are presented as if the lived in an imaginary Buenos Aires, this characterization is inspired by his childhood, a time during which men dressed that way.
The sense of humor presented in his paintings intends to mitigate the modern world’s anguish, and invites us to find a moment of rest and reflection.
