Maria Berrio was born in Bogota, Colombia, in 1982. She lives and works in NY, where she moved to, at the age of 17, to attend Parson’s School of Design, to study illustration, and then went on to pursue a Master’s degree at the School of Visual Arts, in NY, where she discovered the art of collage.
Her first solo show was at Praxis NY, in 2013. Her work has been included at ‘Cut n’ Mix’, the group show at El Museo del Barrio, NY in 2015, ‘Art on Paper Biennial’, at the Weatherspoon Museum in 2017, and ‘Prospect.4’, the New Orleans Biennial. Her pieces are are part of the permanent collections of The Weatherspoon Museum, The Nasher Museum and Ford Foundation.
She is currently working on her upcoming solo exhibition, opening in September 2019 at Praxis NY.
