Maria Berrio was born in Bogota, Colombia, in 1982. She lives and works in NY, where she moved to, at the age of 17, to attend Parsons School of Design, to study illustration, and then went on to pursue a Master’s degree at the School of Visual Arts, in NY, where she discovered the art of collage.
Her first solo show was at Praxis NY, in 2013. Her work has been included at ‘Cut n’ Mix’, the group show at El Museo del Barrio, NY in 2015, ‘Art on Paper Biennial’, at the Weatherspoon Museum in 2017, and ‘Prospect.4’, the New Orleans Biennial. Her pieces are part of the permanent collections of The Weatherspoon Museum, The Nasher Museum, The Perez Art Museum, the Whitney Museum and Ford Foundation.
