Carlos Alonso was born in Mendoza, Argentina in 1929. He is a contemporary painter, drafstman and printmaker.
He studied Art at the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman, with renowned artist Spilimbergo, his greatest mentor. He’s illustrated, among other, several literally novels, such as Romancero criollo by Federico Garcia Lorca, La divina comedia by Dante Alighieri, and El juguete rabioso by Roberto Arlt.
His work has been exhibited around the world, such as in the Palacio de Bellas Artes of Mexico City, Museo de Arte of La Habana, and in galleries such as Villa Giulia in Rome, the Eidos of Milan, and the Bedford in London.
In 2005, 400 years after Cervantes' work was published, the Museum of Design and Illustration held a tribute exhibition at Buenos Aires' Museo de Artes Plásticas Eduardo Sívori where Alonso's prints and original drawings were displayed.
