Carlos Gorriarena was born in Buenos Aires in 1925. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, where he had the privilege of having Lucio Fontana and Antonio Berni as his teachers. He held his 1st solo show in 1959, and co-founded the Grupo del Plata (1960-1964). He was awarded the Gran Premio Honor Salon Nacional, in Argentina, in 1986, considered the ultimate distinction in the Argentinean art scene. Hi is one of the most prominent figures in the Political Art movement of his country, movement started by the great Berni, during the 1930’s.
