Ernesto Deira was born in Buenos Aires, in 1928. Together with Jorge de la Vega, Romulo Maccio and Luis Felipe Noe, they became the founding fathers of The New Figuration, one of Argentina’s most groundbreaking art movements. He took part in a 1966 exhibition, organized by Cornell University, at the Guggenheim Museum, and the following year he received the prestigious Fondo Nacional de las Artes Award, in Argentina. In 1977, he moved to Paris with his wife, where he would live for the rest of his life, until 1986.
Deira’s work represents the human figure, through different times, beaten up by several catastrophes, yet in constant evolution, a human figure that constructs itself in relation to the reality it is surrounded by, in its individual and social world that contains him.
